Support for forest projects in Tyrol
Carbon storage in the forest ecosystem
As of 2026, the Plansee Group is supporting forestry projects in the Austrian municipalities of Reutte, Breitenwang, and Häselgehr. Similar to existing projects in the USA and India, the Plansee Group is also focusing on local initiatives in Tyrol in order to voluntarily make a regional contribution to climate protection for unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions in Scopes 1 and 2.
Pina Earth, a Dornbirn-based ClimateTech company, supports forest owners in Tyrol and elsewhere in their transition to climate-resilient forestry. The aim is to ensure that the forest is managed sustainably and remains healthy. Care is taken to ensure that sufficient wood remains in the forest, thereby binding carbon in the long term. The proceeds from the projects are invested entirely in the sustainable care and preservation of the forests. With its climate contribution to Pina Earth's projects, Plansee Group is helping to prepare more than one million square meters of forest in Tyrol for climate change.
“We are delighted to now also be supporting projects in the immediate vicinity of our group's largest production site and headquarters. The regional anchoring of the projects is of key importance to us,” explains Dr. Andreas Lackner, member of the Plansee Group's Executive Board. The long-term projects are audited by TÜV in accordance with ISO 14064-2 and enable CO₂ certificates to be issued. “When selecting our climate protection projects, we attach great importance to the quality of the certificates.”
Plansee Group decarbonization strategy
In recent years, the Plansee HPM and CERATIZIT business areas have made significant progress in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions through a variety of measures. These include the procurement of electricity from renewable sources at all major Plansee HPM and CERATIZIT production sites worldwide (currently 97 percent) and the intensification of recycling of the materials used (currently 88 percent for tungsten). Further measures aim to reduce energy consumption in production, operate an electrolyzer for hydrogen production to replace natural gas as a raw material, make greater use of process heat, and recycle hydrogen. In addition, Plansee HPM and CERATIZIT will also place greater demands on their suppliers.
Further information on our goals and current key figures from our sustainability program can be found in the Plansee Group Sustainability Report.
