Position type: Exempt

Position Overview: At the GTP Parts Production Line in Towanda, Pennsylvania, the position involves managing all engineering and development activities for tungsten heavy alloy components and other refractory metals. The role ensures that manufacturing operations perform within budget, meet forecasted sales and scheduled shipments, conform to all safety and environmental regulations, and produce products that meet established quality standards and customer expectations. Additionally, the position leads research and development efforts for new products and processes, aiming to improve the overall cost-efficiency of current products and processes to increase sales and profitability. This includes generating ideas, researching established and new technologies, and exploring new applications for GTP's products. The role requires expertise in various fields, including metallurgy, and involves communicating results both orally and in written form, while interacting with manufacturing personnel, customers, subordinates, peers, and upper-level management.

Responsibilities:

  • Team Management and Mentorship - Mentor and manage a team, including Engineering, Scientists, and Quality Assurance. Supervise junior staff and collaborate with various functions to achieve common goals.
  • Safety and Compliance - Ensure safe operating procedures and environmental compliance.  Participate in relevant certifications and support regulatory requirements.
  • Process Improvement and Problem Solving - Lead efforts in process/equipment problem-solving and improvement. Implement cost reductions and maintain effective cost-reduction programs.
  • Technical Assistance and Customer Support - Provide technical assistance and problem-solving support to sales representatives and customers. Collaborate with various departments to achieve company goals.
  • Development of New Products -Manage development portfolio, including research and experimental development.  Oversee pilot and small-scale lines for product development and transfer to mass production. Generate ideas for new products and cost reductions.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Material Science, or Chemistry. A PhD or Master of Science degree in the relevant field is preferred.
  • A Master of Science or PhD degree with at least 3 to 5 years of leadership experience in Powder Metallurgy, Tungsten, Molybdenum, or Refractory Metal Production. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the same fields.
  • Demonstrated success in process/project engineering and/or research and development projects. Prior position of Engineering Manager and/or Research and Development Manager (preferred). Strong engineering background with manufacturing experience
  • Strong leadership and strong problem-solving skills. Ability to lead and participate in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment.  Demonstrated success as a manager and leader is essential.  Strong communication skills, organization and time management.
  • Computer skills, especially with SAP, WORD, EXCEL, statistical software. Six Sigma
