Position type: Exempt

Position Overview: With minimum supervision, the process engineer performs a variety of assignments in developing and implementing production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost efficient manner. Investigates and resolves work-in-process problems. Recommends and implements improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters. Monitors assigned operations to assure compliance with approved methods and quality standards. Investigates problems and recommends solutions.

Responsibilities Would Include:

  • Active manufacturing, quality and engineering representative for assigned areas. Lead in Quality issue resolution both internal to GTP manufacturing processes and in external Customer reported issues. Assist and lead manufacturing personnel in process/equipment problem solving and attainment of production goals.
  • Apply Six Sigma and Lean methodologies for continual improvement of processes. Collaborate with Marketing, R&D, Manufacturing and Customers to ensure successful launch and stability of new products and processes at GTP. Assure safe operating procedures and conditions are maintained. Assist and participate in ISO certifications.
  • Maintain product/process specification and procedures, coordinate part number listings and maintain bills of materials and routes. Maintain FPY and material efficiency metrics. Utilize Six Sigma and Lean tools to drive continuous improvement. Maintain effective cost reduction programs via process/product modifications and development.
  • Provide expedient reaction to problems with root cause analysis, containment actions, corrective actions and preventative actions. Collaborate with and mentor operators, technicians and other personnel to optimize processes. Attain in-depth knowledge of processes, equipment and products.
  • Review proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new production/processing equipment. Prepare financial reviews for justification of new equipment. Preparation and tracking of powder samples for quality inspection and data tracking in SAP quality system. Review and modify process specifications as required. Direct and utilize technical resources such as technicians and interns/Co-ops to accomplish required tasks.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 4-year engineering degree (Material Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering  required).
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma/Statistics and LEAN a plus. Experience with Minitab, SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access, a plus.
  • Familiarity or interest in powder metallurgy, powder processing, and database creation, is a plus. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with all levels of the organization, particularly Manufacturing, Planning, Marketing and R&D. Experience in manufacturing/production area a plus. 
  • Occasional travel to customers.  Willingness and ability to perform each manufacturing job associated with the assigned department. Ability to perform in a high-energy, team oriented environment.  Should demonstrate the ability to logically approach and solve problems.
